The Action Bible: My (Unpaid and Completely Honest) Review

This post is not like my usual posts, but I really wanted to share my thoughts on The Action Bible

First, let me disclose that I am not being paid for this review, I really just wanted to share my thoughts as a momma.

The Action Bible first came into our lives when my mom bought them for my two girls as well as their cousins one year for Easter. I had never even heard of it, but quickly fell in love with it. Let me tell you why.

My youngest daughter was almost 9 years old at the time and although she had a "grown up Bible", she really latched on to The Action Bible. Now, I don't know about you, but when something makes my child latch on to the word of God, I get a little excited!

I will mention that my other daughter was a bit older in her tween years and she did not show as much interest. I suppose it depends on the kid and where they are in life's journey. I'm not sure if my oldest just thought she was too mature for The Action Bible or if she just preferred a different format (she asked for a journaling Bible not long after.)

Each night my youngest would read a page or several pages in her Bible. Some nights she would skip reading, but she would make up for it on other nights when the comic-like captions and vivid illustrations would pulled her into a story.

I don't know about you, but I'm a visual person and I sure would have benefitted from those pictures as a child. Uh, who am I kidding, I still benefit from them!

I remember nights when I would sit in her room and we would take turns reading the stories. Those are core memories that we will both cherish forever.

Even better, my daughter read that entire Bible that year!

Each year our church gives certificates to those that have read their entire Bible. I could not have been more proud when my daughter stood in front of the church alongside her great-grandfather as they received certificates for reading through their Bibles.

Yes, it was a children's Bible, but she was a child and that was still a big book!

I know one thing for sure. Without The Action Bible my daughter would have never read through the entire Bible at the age of 9.

If you want to encourage your child to dive into the word of God, I highly recommend The Action Bible.

Updated to add: Although we didn't use it personally, I've also heard great things about the Adventure Bible! It seems to have a better mixture of traditional scripture with illustrations, facts, and information that keeps a child's interest. Available at churchsource.com.

I hope it blesses your family as much as it did ours!

God bless!

God’s Steppingstones: They’re Ready, Will You Walk the Path He Has Prepared

The original title of this post was, "God Lays His Steppingstones One at a Time", but that cannot be further from the truth. God has had His steppingstones laid out before the beginning of time. He already knows every step that will ever be taken. He only reveals them to us one step at a time. Let's be honest, that is not easy for humans, at least not for me anyway. I like to know my next steps before I take them. I want to know what will happen, how soon it will happen, and who will be involved, but things don't always work that way.  God is in control and we must always remind ourselves of that. However, there are some things we can (and must) control. Has God laid a stepping stone for you that you were supposed to step on a LONG time ago? I mean, I don't need to know, that's between you and God, but I know I've been guilty! Sometimes we wait on God's answers, but sometimes God is way ahead of us. He's just waiting on us to take that next step, w...

God Will Provide, Just Trust in Him: How He Used a Metaphor to Remind Me

Have you ever felt like a bird with clipped wings? No matter how hard you flap and wail around, you feel like you can't get anywhere. Sure, you still get some flight time, but it's slower and not as far as you would like. I have to admit that I'm feeling that way right now and my heart is hurting for others that feel the same.  It's easy to ask, "God, why? Why are you allowing me to go through this?" It's like we automatically assume that the scissors that clipped our wings are in His hands, but that's not usually the case.  THE BIRDCAGE Just five months ago, I was working at my nine-to-five (tucked nicely into my little birdcage). I had worked there for over 12 years and didn't really have plans to leave, but God had other plans . I was supplied with food and water (paycheck) consistently and my cage was kept clean and tidy (I had great colleagues and loved the work), but God wanted more for me.  THE RELEASE The freedom of being released from my b...

We’re Raising God’s Kids and They’re Watching Our Every Move

Something happened last night that I have to share! I had just gotten home from a softball meeting with my oldest daughter and as I was cooking supper I noticed that my youngest daughter’s Bible was open on the couch. I didn’t ask her about it right then because my oldest daughter’s boyfriend was over, I was cooking supper, and I was filling my husband in on the softball meeting. You know how life distracts you.  Anyway, after I was done cooking supper my youngest brought her phone over to me and wanted me to look at a couple of pictures. After I took her phone in my hand I realized these were no ordinary pictures. She had been reading her Bible and took the text from her Bible, and the lessons that she had learned, and made graphics with inspirational messages. Guys, do you know how much that blessed my heart?! My daughter is watching me. She sees me living for God, reading my Bible, and sharing the word. Now, she’s excited to do the same!  After our good night prayers, my gi...
