It's easy to ask, "God, why? Why are you allowing me to go through this?" It's like we automatically assume that the scissors that clipped our wings are in His hands, but that's not usually the case.
THE BIRDCAGE
Just five months ago, I was working at my nine-to-five (tucked nicely into my little birdcage). I had worked there for over 12 years and didn't really have plans to leave, but God had other plans. I was supplied with food and water (paycheck) consistently and my cage was kept clean and tidy (I had great colleagues and loved the work), but God wanted more for me.
THE RELEASE
The freedom of being released from my birdcage was exhilarating and incredibly scary all at the same time. I was excited to begin my new journey with the Lord and focus more of my time on His mission.
CLIPPING OF THE WINGS
Well, it's been five months since my release. I'm still excited about what God has in store for me, but I'm still searching for all of the answers. We've now exhausted most of our savings and I'm not helping my husband gather for our nest. Why? Why would God allow me to lose my job if He didn't immediately have something else prepared for me? Why am I flapping around with clipped wings and not flying immediately as I had hoped?
THE HANDS THAT HOLD THE SCISSORS
God spoke to me recently and He opened my eyes. As I looked down, I saw the scissors in my own hand. In my other hand, the hammer that nailed our savior to the cross. I cried. It was me. It is me. I've clipped my own wings, but how?(Confession break. God was giving me this story on a day when I was struggling, but it ended right here. I didn't have the answer. I had to leave this blog post and pray on it for a few days. I was struggling for an answer, just like I was struggling with my life circumstances, but then one morning after listening to my Bible and reading scripture, He gave me the answer! I can't describe the feeling that I get when I get a clear answer to such a specific question. God is so good, folks.)
Finally, it was clear. It's not about ME. It has never been about me and MY wings. I mean, how many times does He need to tell me??
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. Psalm 91:4
As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: Deuteronomy 32:11
Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings, Psalm 17:8
How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings. Psalm 36:7
Be merciful unto me, O God, be merciful unto me: for my soul trusteth in thee: yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast. Psalm 57:1
I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. Psalm 64:1
Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice. Psalm 63:7
Behold, he shall come up and fly as the eagle, and spread his wings over Bozrah: and at that day shall the heart of the mighty men of Edom be as the heart of a woman in her pangs. Jeremiah 49:22
God is my wings, He's my protector, my provider, my everything. Once again God was reminding me that this journey is not about me, it's about Him. The way God works and speaks is so fantastic. I don't know how else to describe it. My heart is so full this morning. God is rewarding me for searching through scripture and praying continually. He's giving me these seemingly random pieces of information that suddenly come together and completely blow my mind. He's an awesome God for sure.
I hope this message to me can also serve as a reminder to you. Oftentimes when we're focusing on ourselves, our problems, and what God is trying to do in our lives, we just need to focus on Him. We need to help Him take flight, not ourselves. He will provide for us along the way.
God bless and remember to live each day free and humble.
