We’re Raising God’s Kids and They’re Watching Our Every Move

Something happened last night that I have to share!

We’re Raising God’s Kids insta freeandhumble.com

I had just gotten home from a softball meeting with my oldest daughter and as I was cooking supper I noticed that my youngest daughter’s Bible was open on the couch. I didn’t ask her about it right then because my oldest daughter’s boyfriend was over, I was cooking supper, and I was filling my husband in on the softball meeting. You know how life distracts you.

Anyway, after I was done cooking supper my youngest brought her phone over to me and wanted me to look at a couple of pictures. After I took her phone in my hand I realized these were no ordinary pictures. She had been reading her Bible and took the text from her Bible, and the lessons that she had learned, and made graphics with inspirational messages. Guys, do you know how much that blessed my heart?! My daughter is watching me. She sees me living for God, reading my Bible, and sharing the word. Now, she’s excited to do the same!

After our good night prayers, my girls asked if they could create a new Instagram account to share their inspirational graphics and messages from God. My girls want to spread the gospel to a wider audience! I mean, they’ve always been good girls and try to live for Christ, but this is the first time they’ve approached me with the idea to do outreach completely on their own. To me, as a parent, this is huge!

This whole situation has brought a couple of things to light for me. Maybe it will resonate with you too.

Our kids watch our every move.

I’ve always heard that your children watch what you do and want to walk in your footsteps, but this was an eye-opener. If I wasn’t currently spending so much time talking to God and reading his word, my daughter may have never created those graphics or shared her thoughts from the Lord. She wouldn't have been using her God-given talent and that would have been on me. One day I will be judged based upon how I raised my kids. Is that something I'm fully prepared for?

These are not my kids.

Don’t get me wrong, genetically speaking my children are 100% my husband’s and mine. (No, we do not need to go on The Maury Show to determine that. lol) However, nothing on this earth is truly ours. It’s merely loaned to us from God, including our children. Think about that for a moment. We are raising God’s children! That is a huge responsibility! God has loaned us these kids to raise in his image. I mean, no pressure, right? Seriously though, why has this never fully clicked for me before?! We’re on this earth for one purpose and it’s not so we can teach our kids the best songs from the 70s to the 00s (guilty!) It’s to teach them how to live their life so they can spend eternity with our Lord and Savior. Am I truly doing that justice?

The good news is, we can save our kids and teach them everything they need to know just by doing it ourselves. Remember? They watch our every move!

Obviously, that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t talk to them directly about God and teach them everything they need to know, but you’re not going to know that unless you do it yourself.

I find it funny that I thought I knew so much, but God keeps opening my eyes to so much more!

If you’re a parent and feel led today, please say this prayer with me.

Thank you, Lord, for your mercy and forgiveness. Thank you for continually teaching me how to live life more abundantly in your presence. Dear God, I pray today that you grab ahold of my outstretched hand and lead me as I hold my family tight with my other hand. Use me as a compass for my children and keep me strong yet humble as we take each step in your direction. If I ever start to lose my grip on you, let the grip of my other hand always remind me why I’m holding on and that I’m the connection between my children and you. Thank you for blessing me with the opportunity to raise your children and show them your love here on earth. I’m incredibly thankful each day to have them and I pray that I’m doing enough to lead them back home to you when that time comes. Bless their journey, Lord, and those around them, including their future spouses. I pray all of this in your precious name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

If I get nothing else out of this experience than a closer walk with God for me, as well as my family, it will still be the best thing I’ve ever done.

May God bless you on your journey to be free and humble.

God’s Steppingstones: They’re Ready, Will You Walk the Path He Has Prepared

The original title of this post was, "God Lays His Steppingstones One at a Time", but that cannot be further from the truth. God has had His steppingstones laid out before the beginning of time. He already knows every step that will ever be taken. He only reveals them to us one step at a time. Let's be honest, that is not easy for humans, at least not for me anyway. I like to know my next steps before I take them. I want to know what will happen, how soon it will happen, and who will be involved, but things don't always work that way.  God is in control and we must always remind ourselves of that. However, there are some things we can (and must) control. Has God laid a stepping stone for you that you were supposed to step on a LONG time ago? I mean, I don't need to know, that's between you and God, but I know I've been guilty! Sometimes we wait on God's answers, but sometimes God is way ahead of us. He's just waiting on us to take that next step, w...

God Will Provide, Just Trust in Him: How He Used a Metaphor to Remind Me

Have you ever felt like a bird with clipped wings? No matter how hard you flap and wail around, you feel like you can't get anywhere. Sure, you still get some flight time, but it's slower and not as far as you would like. I have to admit that I'm feeling that way right now and my heart is hurting for others that feel the same.  It's easy to ask, "God, why? Why are you allowing me to go through this?" It's like we automatically assume that the scissors that clipped our wings are in His hands, but that's not usually the case.  THE BIRDCAGE Just five months ago, I was working at my nine-to-five (tucked nicely into my little birdcage). I had worked there for over 12 years and didn't really have plans to leave, but God had other plans . I was supplied with food and water (paycheck) consistently and my cage was kept clean and tidy (I had great colleagues and loved the work), but God wanted more for me.  THE RELEASE The freedom of being released from my b...
