God has to be our priority, but He has given us free will and the freedom to control what we do in our lives. He has left it up to us to make Him a priority and set aside time to draw closer to Him.
I worked outside of the home my entire life until recently. I understand the struggles of being a busy working mom. If you're not at work your running kids to activities or catching up on house work that seems like a losing battle. You don't have time to take a shower or go to the bathroom in peace, let alone devote quiet time to the Lord. Or so you think. I've gathered a list of ways that I've started inserting God into my everyday life. It has been a game-changer for me and I hope it will help you as well.
Some suggestions involve listening to God's word, but you can mix it up by listening to a Christian podcast, Christian music, or a sermon as well. Just don't get in the habit of only listening to music and not hearing God's word (I've been guilty.)
Thank God before leaving your bed. As soon as you turn off that alarm (or after the third time hitting snooze!) thank God for sustaining you. Thank Him for giving you the opportunity to live for Him another day. Those few minutes in the morning help start my day off in the right direction.
Listen to the Bible while in the shower. Take your phone or blue-tooth speaker into the bathroom and listen to God's word while you're getting ready. Sounds silly, but I have come to love this.
Listen to the Bible during your commute. If your house is a bit crazy in the morning and you need to wait until your morning commute to listen to the Bible, that's a great time too. I've had some great worship moments in my car! Sure, people think I'm crazy, but I'm sure God was smiling and my day was started just right.
Listen to worship music while cleaning the house. Now, this is where I prefer to blast the worship music! I listen to the Bible during my more peaceful moments, but sometimes you just need to get loud with Jesus.Thank God while doing chores around the house. This may seem silly at first, but hey, you're already blasting worship music so just roll with it! As you pick up your kids' toys, thank God that your kids are healthy and that you can afford to buy them those toys. When your husband leaves his clothes steps away from the laundry basket, thank God for the clothes He has provided and the husband that provides you with the opportunity to touch them so often. It's amazing what being thankful will do for your mind and spirit.
Feature a new scripture in your home each week. Place a scripture on the calendar, at the family station, on the bathroom mirror, on the fridge, on your nightstand, in your kids' lunchbox, anywhere you can think to place the scripture. Seeing God's words daily will build your relationship with Him.
Show someone else love. This one sounds so easy, but why is it so hard sometimes. God tells us to love one another. In fact, the exact phrase "love one another" is written 12 times in the King James Version of the Bible. I can't think of a much better way to insert God into your life than by loving like Jesus.
Feeling creative? Get yourself a journaling Bible. Shake that creative bone, brush off that old calligraphy pen, pull out the dusty Crayola markers, and grab your Bible! Find ways to spend time with God while doing things that you enjoy.
Volunteer at your church. I'll be the first to admit that I can do better at this for sure. In fact, I almost avoided putting it on here because I was feeling a little convicted about it. With my busy schedule of work, family, and coaching, I don't have much time to devote to volunteering at our church. However, this is a great way to get closer to the Body of Christ as well as our Lord.
Pickup the Bible at night instead of another book. If you're a nighttime reader, grab for your Bible instead of that novel you were thinking of reading. I know that love saga is irresistible, but there are some interesting love stories in the Bible too. Adam and Eve, Rebecca and Isaac, the love triangle of Jacob, Leah, Rachel, Samson and Delilah, I could go on and on.
Really, the best advice I can give you is to find what's best for you. Take the time to examine your day and determine when God can accompany you along the way.
God bless and I pray that your life is free and humble!
