Call Me Crazy, but the Bible Can Be So Exciting! How I’m Learning to Love Reading the Word.

Bible is exciting insta freeandhumble.com
I'm going to say something that childhood me, teenage me, and even young adult me would have
thought was absolutely insane... reading the Bible is so much FUN! Now, don't let me lose you just yet. Like I said, in the past I would have told you that is crazy. The Bible always seemed like work. It was something that I was supposed to do, but I would get lost in the thees, thous, and Biblical names. Here's a helpful tip: If you struggle with a word, just pull up BibleGateway.com and let them read it to you. Sometimes that is how I read a few books of the Bible all at once. It's so much easier to follow along and not get stuck on difficult words. I digress.

The more I spend time with God, whether it's reading the Bible, praying, or worshipping, the clearer things have become. God brings things together for me like never before. It's so energizing! It feels like I'm getting all of these little hidden clues each day that will ultimately lead me to my forever home in heaven. All I have to do is keep searching for the clues and to be honest, the more I find, the more I want to find! It truly is so much fun! I finally understand the phrase, "living the game of life", this is the ultimate "game" and I'm finally playing with strategy. In fact, I have all the answers in my book, I just have to find them!

This morning as I was reading my Bible, God brought me to Haggai Chapter 1. Now, if you've read my story at all you know that I lost my job and I'm now working from home focusing my time on the Lord. That is what God called me to do. With that in mind, let's take a look at Haggai 1:5-8. Those verses really stuck out to me this morning and got me excited! I will take you into my head (scary, I know) under each verse so you can see what I received from God while reading. Just don't judge how I represent His words, God talks real talk to me. lol (Yes, I just put lol in my blog. Perfectly normal, right?) I digress again. Anyway, maybe it's a message you need to hear as well.

Bible Scripture Haggai 1:5-8 freeandhumble.com
5 Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

Step back and take a look at yourself and what you're doing with your life.

6 Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.

You're working hard, but for what? You're dedicating yourself to this world and not me, yet you're still living paycheck to paycheck. You're not getting ahead.

7 Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.

Really think about that for a moment. You're spending so much time at work (and not focusing on me) and for what? Just to get by?

8 Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the Lord.

(A mountain throughout the Bible is a symbol of stability, but it also symbolizes a closeness to God. God appeared to Moses on Mount Sinai, Jesus appointed the 12 disciples on a mountain, He had the sermon on the mount, and one could even say a mountain is closer in distance to Heaven (as in the sky).)

Get closer to me. Gather my word and teaching and build something new for yourself that is centered around me. This will please me and glorify me to others.

Now, someone else could have read these verses and got something completely different out of them, but this message spoke to me so strongly and that's the exciting part! When something from the Bible hits your situation or your need, it's a feeling like no other. It's like you just received a text message from Jesus himself, folks! It's so very special.

If you get anything out of my post today (even if the message that I received has nothing to do with you), it's that you should take time to read your Bible. Seek guidance from God. Get your special message(s) today!

Don't make it hard. Do what you need to do. Listen to the Bible on BibleGateway.com or buy a cute new Bible to get you excited. If you're a kid, get an Action Bible. You can also stop and journal on a part that speaks to you. Just say a prayer and open to a random scripture. Whatever makes it exciting for you, do it. I promise you, you will not regret it.

I hope this encouraged you a bit today. I pray over my readers every. single. day. I will continue to pray that God speaks to you and creates an excitement within you.

God bless and remember to stay free and humble

God’s Steppingstones: They’re Ready, Will You Walk the Path He Has Prepared

The original title of this post was, "God Lays His Steppingstones One at a Time", but that cannot be further from the truth. God has had His steppingstones laid out before the beginning of time. He already knows every step that will ever be taken. He only reveals them to us one step at a time. Let's be honest, that is not easy for humans, at least not for me anyway. I like to know my next steps before I take them. I want to know what will happen, how soon it will happen, and who will be involved, but things don't always work that way.  God is in control and we must always remind ourselves of that. However, there are some things we can (and must) control. Has God laid a stepping stone for you that you were supposed to step on a LONG time ago? I mean, I don't need to know, that's between you and God, but I know I've been guilty! Sometimes we wait on God's answers, but sometimes God is way ahead of us. He's just waiting on us to take that next step, w...

God Will Provide, Just Trust in Him: How He Used a Metaphor to Remind Me

Have you ever felt like a bird with clipped wings? No matter how hard you flap and wail around, you feel like you can't get anywhere. Sure, you still get some flight time, but it's slower and not as far as you would like. I have to admit that I'm feeling that way right now and my heart is hurting for others that feel the same.  It's easy to ask, "God, why? Why are you allowing me to go through this?" It's like we automatically assume that the scissors that clipped our wings are in His hands, but that's not usually the case.  THE BIRDCAGE Just five months ago, I was working at my nine-to-five (tucked nicely into my little birdcage). I had worked there for over 12 years and didn't really have plans to leave, but God had other plans . I was supplied with food and water (paycheck) consistently and my cage was kept clean and tidy (I had great colleagues and loved the work), but God wanted more for me.  THE RELEASE The freedom of being released from my b...

We’re Raising God’s Kids and They’re Watching Our Every Move

Something happened last night that I have to share! I had just gotten home from a softball meeting with my oldest daughter and as I was cooking supper I noticed that my youngest daughter’s Bible was open on the couch. I didn’t ask her about it right then because my oldest daughter’s boyfriend was over, I was cooking supper, and I was filling my husband in on the softball meeting. You know how life distracts you.  Anyway, after I was done cooking supper my youngest brought her phone over to me and wanted me to look at a couple of pictures. After I took her phone in my hand I realized these were no ordinary pictures. She had been reading her Bible and took the text from her Bible, and the lessons that she had learned, and made graphics with inspirational messages. Guys, do you know how much that blessed my heart?! My daughter is watching me. She sees me living for God, reading my Bible, and sharing the word. Now, she’s excited to do the same!  After our good night prayers, my gi...
