Finding God's Purpose for my Work Life
We spend a lot of time on this earth working. A lot. That makes the purpose of our work so very important. When I was young and contemplating what I wanted to do for a profession (besides being a mom because that’s all I really wanted to be), I was more concerned about how much money I would make rather than if it was righteous work for the Lord. However, recent world events and changes within my work life have given me a new perspective and left me asking the question, "are you working with purpose?" A couple of weeks ago when I was working full time outside of the home my answer to that question would have clearly been, "no." Since then I feel that God has lead me to step out in faith and live more righteously. To be honest, I have no idea what that fully means or what my next steps will be, but the anticipation is kind of exciting. Don’t get me wrong, I’m nervous. We’ve always been a two income household and we cannot afford for me to not work at all. Therefore, I’m on a mission to find out what God wants me to do and still help provide for my family.

I have so many ideas of what I might want to do. I love so many things which makes it hard to narrow down. However, I need to keep my work righteous to the Lord so that will help narrow things down naturally. 

Things I'm interested in doing that would be pleasing to God and help support my family...

1. Create and build a Christian blog. I've got a small start, but I would love to build this blog into something more. A lot of people are going through situations similar to mine right now. I want to bring hope and encourage others to step out into faith. However, this blog isn't going to be a site of lies and only good moments. I have no doubts that my husband and I will go through some tough times as we transition to our new normal and I work to find other less traditional ways to help support our family. That will be a big part of this blog. I want to be real about our struggles and share how we plan to keep our faith and press forward.  

2. Create a faith-based brand. Call me crazy, but with many people wanting to live a more Free and Humble life, we can unite through things like t-shirts, prayer cards, Christian gifts, etc. I would love to see Free & Humble everywhere and have it be symbolic of God's people stepping back and taking a clearer look at their purpose.

3. Amazon FBA (Fullfillment by Amazon). Okay, so I'm kind of excited about this one too. I'm just dipping my toes into the waters of the Amazon, but so far I like how it feels. I bought some items on clearance and sent them on their way. And guess what? They started selling! Now I'd love to take the next step and make a wholesale order. Better yet, I can sell Christian items or sell my own brand once it's up and running! I'm still researching and learning, but I hope to provide an update on this soon too.

4. Paint. I enjoy painting and it would be a dream to sell my paintings. However, I'm under no impression that I can make a full-time living off of my paintings, but I would be using the gift that God gave me. When God gives us gifts, it is pleasing to him for us to use those gifts. 

5. Bake and decorate cookies. This kind of goes along with painting because it's another way to be creative and use my gifts. This would also be a fulfulling way to earn extra money when you see your customer's face light up. 

Those are a few of the ideas that I've had for working from home to make money for my family while spending more time with them. These ideas are personal to me, but feel free to steal them if any of the ideas resonate with you. I hope my story can provide some inspiration for you to step out in faith and be Humble & Free.

Have you ever felt like a bird with clipped wings? No matter how hard you flap and wail around, you feel like you can't get anywhere. We’re Raising God’s Kids and They’re Watching Our Every Move

Something happened last night that I have to share! I had just gotten home from a softball meeting with my oldest daughter and as I was cooking supper I noticed that my youngest daughter’s Bible was open on the couch. I didn’t ask her about it right then because my oldest daughter’s boyfriend was over, I was cooking supper, and I was filling my husband in on the softball meeting. You know how life distracts you.  Anyway, after I was done cooking supper my youngest brought her phone over to me and wanted me to look at a couple of pictures. After I took her phone in my hand I realized these were no ordinary pictures. She had been reading her Bible and took the text from her Bible, and the lessons that she had learned, and made graphics with inspirational messages.
