God Told Me to Be a Light: Why I Decided to Post My Story for All to See

MY STORY

Some may consider the story of losing my job private, and while I agree that in some ways it's a private matter, it is WHY I did what I did (listened to God) and what comes next (finding my purpose with God) that is most important.

God told me to step out in faith...

God told me to be more righteous...

God told me to be a light!

God used my current circumstance to redirect my path. My story is less about why I lost my job and more about God's timing and His direction for my life.

As I was scrolling through Instagram recently, I read a quote that BuildingHerself posted. It read, "Who you are is God's gift to you. What you become is your gift to God."

I want to become exactly what God intended me to be. I also want to be a light for Him and encourage others to live to their full (Godly) potential. 

We are here on this earth for such a short time. Did God create you to just work your life away for someone else, to run the kids to sports, to worry about bills, to talk down on others, or to wander through this life lonely or without purpose? Absolutely not! God created you for a purpose! If you give your life to God and find your purpose, your life will never be the same! You are meant to live for God and shine his light to others. 

BE A LIGHT

Here are a few of my favorite scriptures about being a light...

"You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house." Matthew 5:14-15 (KJV)

"No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light." Luke 8:16 (KJV)

"Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life." John 8:12 (KJV)

WHY YOU NEED TO SHARE YOUR STORY (SHINE YOUR LIGHT)

Your story is unique, no one will have the same journey that you have throughout life, but there will be similarities. Here's why you should share your story and be a light.

1. Someone else might learn from your experiences,

2. Someone might be going through the same situation and feel alone. 

3. You can be a testament to the glory of God (even through trials).

4. It can be healing for you.

5. You might find out that you're not alone.

6. You could save someone's soul! Will they ever hear that word of God if it's not from you?

I'm not telling you to quit your job, but I am telling you to REALLY LISTEN to what God wants you to do with your life. Our Savior continues to be just that. He saved me from working my life away for someone else, traveling for business and spending time away from my family, and added stress that was not benefitting me or my ultimate walk with the Him.

Are you listening to what He wants for your life or are you like I was? I was too busy to even know what I needed or how little time I was spending on my own salvation let alone helping others with theirs. I wasn't reading my Bible as much as I should much less telling others about the word. My light was so dim from the smog of everyday life. Then, Jesus blew in like a fresh breeze, cleared the skies, and ignited a new fire deep inside of me. Now, I have made it my business to worship God and shine my light. Literally, made it my business. There is no other way I would rather spend my time. 

ENCOURAGEMENT

I encourage you today to share your story, even if it's hard. Sit your pride aside, humble yourself, share your shortcomings and trials, because that may be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

God Will Provide, Just Trust in Him: How He Used a Metaphor to Remind Me

Have you ever felt like a bird with clipped wings? No matter how hard you flap and wail around, you feel like you can't get anywhere. Sure, you still get some flight time, but it's slower and not as far as you would like. We’re Raising God’s Kids and They’re Watching Our Every Move

Something happened last night that I have to share! I had just gotten home from a softball meeting with my oldest daughter and as I was cooking supper I noticed that my youngest daughter’s Bible was open on the couch. I didn’t ask her about it right then because my oldest daughter’s boyfriend was over, I was cooking supper, and I was filling my husband in on the softball meeting. You know how life distracts you.  Anyway, after I was done cooking supper my youngest brought her phone over to me and wanted me to look at a couple of pictures. After I took her phone in my hand I realized these were no ordinary pictures. She had been reading her Bible and took the text from her Bible, and the lessons that she had learned, and made graphics with inspirational messages.
